Carnival Cruise Ship Collision in Cozumel, Mexico
Two Ships Involved, Damage Assessment Underway
On Friday morning, two Carnival cruise ships, the Carnival Legend and the Carnival Glory, collided while one was docking in Cozumel, Mexico. According to the cruise line, there were no injuries reported, but damage to both vessels is being assessed.
The Carnival Legend, which was carrying approximately 2,100 passengers, was reportedly attempting to dock when it struck the Carnival Glory, which had around 2,900 passengers on board. The collision occurred at around 8:30 AM local time, and both ships were moved to a safe area of the Cozumel port for further inspection.
Carnival Cruise Line released a statement saying that all guests and crew are safe, and that the company is "working to determine the cause of the incident and assess the damage to both ships." They also stated that passengers will be provided with updates as they become available.
While no injuries have been reported, there is concern about the extent of the damage to the ships. The Carnival Legend is said to have sustained damage to its stern, while the Carnival Glory reportedly has damage to its bow. It is unclear at this point whether the damage will impact the current itineraries of either ship.
The incident is currently under investigation by Carnival Cruise Line and maritime authorities. The results of the investigation will likely determine the cause of the collision and any potential consequences.
